Process

So! These past couple days have been a very productive few days for me. I have made the box (which changed a little from plan to construction!) but, after the lecture I decided I wanted the pictures on the front/names to be not your standard squares, but circles. This meant I could use our cookie cutter type drill piece and cut holes out of the front and and base part of my experiment. I really like the reflection type thing you get from the circles in the front peice and the circles in the base.

After putting it all together I realised that a comment Steve made awhile ago about pieces that slip in the front of the form which we could interchange would be a cool idea, and introduce the idea of "levels". As I want to take it away from the gaming type situation I have kept this idea but changed it a little. I have a peice of Black acrylic that slots in, and through the circles, the images will show up. Then, if desired, you can test your perception of sounds even further by sliding the front peice up and out, turning it around and putting it back in. This will show names of the objects and not images making it that one step harder. Instead of visualising which objects are making the sound, you will first visualise the objects and then visualise the sound they make.

So after cutting it out and screwing the box together, and then polyfillering the edges and sanding it back, I took it to school (it is very heavy so I had to drive!:P) and Wednesday was spent in the workroom spray-painting (two whole cans!) and working out how the acrylic slots would work. Today I glued on extra parts for the slots and printed out some test words/titles. I also brought some cardboard for the inserts on the base. Ideally I wanted felt, but getting ahold of the right coloured felt a the right price was something that was a little hard, and given that this is the week of death for me and all my papers have projects due, I decided to go for coloured cardboard, which still makes the inserts pop, but isn't too bright.

I have a colour scheme of black, grey and navy which I really like and think it works, but it will all be tested tomorrow in class when I try the cardboard inserts and try getting it all together.

The objects I have chosen are all sorted and photographed, I just have to print out the photos. I am thinking of possibly covering the sides of the acrylic in something to keep all the pictures / words in place, but I will sort that out tomorrow.

Unfortunately when I was cutting the wood and constructing my box, my camera died and my phone was low on battery and the camera wouldn't work, so I only have pictures of it constructed, but really, all you missed was a heck of a lot of sawdust, and some night-time cookie cuttering while hoping the neighbours didnt call noise control!

So, I have a few pics of what it looks like now, a few more are on my camera from the day I spray-painted. Coming! Then I need to take my 8 photos of the interaction for submission.

As I have a test tomorrow and a Marketing Report due next week that I am hoping to do this weekend, it would be great if I could finish this up tomorrow (friday before submission) at least the physical part of it!

photos!! Woo!!

Its hard to see, but this is inside:)
