Friday....

Today I took a a new user test to class. The great thing about my experiment is that once people start, they dont want to stop until they have had a lot of goes. People tend to always be able to guess one of the objects, but the second is really difficult and more of a process of elimination.

I am nervous about the fact that I am testing sound using images and curiosity and not entirely a new sensation being created, which is ideally what they want. But I do like without sight, guessing materials is really hard. We use sight a lot in determining what materials are being used to create sound. If we hear something we look and our curiosity is quenched when we see them. Not being able to see what objects really tests the humans perception of what they think materials noises will make.

At the start of class I tested harder objects, but still with pictures, but then I changed it so all the user who was guessing could use to decide was the title of the objects. This made things a lot harder, which was great because the tester really had to use their ears and what they thought the objects were. But also there is a fine line between too hard because users lose interest when they think they can't get it.

Feedback I got today was...

  • Make Multiplayer game, team vs team - but I want to stay away from the gaming side of things because that takes focus away from the senses and more on games.
  • Using more than two objects to make noise - this again needs to be monitored otherwise it will get too hard so I need to limit it to two objects.
  • Use an egg timer, so the person making the noise turns the egg timer and makes noise for that long then stops and then the other person test. This could work, I think I will look into this!

So I need to work on my plan now for interim presentation now so my storyboard and words are all done!:)
