Design

This last few days I have been thinking about how I am going to construct my experiment and also the objects. I am in two minds about whether I use objects I have created - or whether some everyday objects are included. As I have tested and both give the required effect when taking part.

I like the idea of having some everyday objects, like Jars or combs as people will have a good idea of what these items sound like, but I also like the materials option and testing how people have already perceived the sound of, say, wood. I think I might have both in the final product....

In terms of construction I have thought of a way around the hinge drama. I think I will try and create the structure out of ply wood, and either varnish, or spray-paint it. The structure will be four planks of wood essentially, which can slot together nicely and still be sturdy. The only issue with this is that testing my theory will be expensive! But I am having to buy ply anyway as I am pretty sure this is going to be the material used to make the object. I thought 30cm width and depth, and 45cm high would be sufficient to keep the objects hidden enough from the other person, but also have them be able to see each other's facials.

I am unsure about a top peice for the box, It might be necessary, but I think I will wait and see once construction has started. Also I am thinking about possibily creating little hold zones for each object, so they all get put back and are not just jumbled up objects in a box. Depending on how hard this might be, I will see! It could be a foam bottom peice with the holes cut out maybe, this would also limit the amount of noise made when picking up objects as not to confuse the other person with noises they are not trying to guess.

Where I am going to put the instructions might be an issue. I don't really want instructions on the main peice, so it could just be a little sign next to it, but we will see...

So I guess here comes the hard part. Actually starting to make it is scary! I think a cardboard version will be the first step so I can get measurements etc exact!
